Christina E. Petrides

Yawning brakes
slide to soft stops.
Black puffy coats
crush together.
Rubber-rimmed doors
bang-clamp shut.
Silent triangles swing,
tuned to the rhythm
of distant thunder
and the flashes
of fluorescence
in the tunnels.
Trains shriek
and whirr warmly,
crashing through darkness,
wriggling spasms
within the pregnant city.

An American expatriate, Christina E. Petrides lives and works on Jeju Island, Republic of Korea. More than a score of her poems have appeared in various periodicals over the last two years. Her first children’s book, Blueberry Man, was published in 2020 by Tchaikovsky Family Books.
