“Sport does not build character, it reveals it”
Everybody likes a good physical action display. Nepal’s population does not exempt themselves from the rule. It practices and follows a lot of various sports. For example, the most popular game played is football, and the most followed is cricket. Without letting aside Olympic Disciplines such as Ski, Marathons…Let’s just say that everybody can find a sweating activity they can enjoy.
But What does the rest of the World’s sports fan-spheres think about when they here “Nepalese Athletes”?
To finish American sports journalist Heywood Broun’s quote, who revealed their character to the world?

I – Dachhiri Sherpa

After competing in 3 Winter Olympic games, Dachhiri sure knows what it is like to proudly carry your countries flag in one of the biggest sports events of our planet.

In 2006 at Torino (Italy), 2010 at Vancouver (Canada) and 2014 at Sochi (Russia) thousands of Nepalese hold their breaths in front of their television hoping for a medal, that unfortunately, he would never bring home. But this wasn’t his personal objective :

“I think there is a very big chance I will finish last. The placing is not important if I can teach young people in Nepal about the Olympic spirit. This spirit is in my heart.”

II – Sandeep Lamichhane

The right-handed leg spin bowler is world known for his impressive career and results.

From Melbourn, Australia, to Delhi, India without forgetting a short passage in Bangladesh. He perfectly fits in this ranking. Last July, he also joined the national squad facing the Netherlands, as did our next name on the list…

III – Basanta Regmi

Well known Cricket player, famous for swinging the ball both ways. He participated in Nepal’s first One Day International against the Netherlands in August 2018.

Even after a bad motorbike accident which had a significant impact on his career, he still plays for the Kantipur Gurkhas in Premier League. His active captain position proves us he still has a lot to offer.

IV – Kami Rita Sherpa

World Famous Alpinist who secured his legendary position last year by climbing for the 22nd time the highest mountain in the world: Mount Everest. I think he can take a well-deserved rest now. The foreign silver record being held by an American who has “only” 15 ascensions to his name.

His secret maybe lays in his blood, as his father was one of the first professional Sherpa guides the country offered to guide the bold and fearless on top of the World.

V – Rohit Paudel

Rohit Paudel

Rohit Paudel is a name everybody talks about these last days. The 16 years old young boy just broke a 29-year-old record by becoming the youngest to hit an international half-century.
