KATHMANDU — World Economic Forum has ranked Nepal 22nd in its Inclusive Development Index (IDI) 2018. Nepal not only has topped the South Asian countries but is ahead of China too. The IDI is an annual assessment among 103 countries where they are ranked according to their GDP and eleven dimensions of economic progress.

WEF states that it has three pillars for the index, “growth and development; inclusion and; intergenerational equity – sustainable stewardship of natural and financial resources.”

Nepal also ranks 3rd among the Most Inclusive Emerging and Developing Economies list. Bangladesh and Sri Lanka stand at 6th and 9th respectively. While China is behind Nepal on 4th.

Nepal is way ahead of its South Asian counterparts with the score of 4.15. India is ranked at 62, Pakistan at 52 and Sri Lanka at 40. And, Bangladesh is placed at 33.

Lithuania tops the Emerging Economies group, whereas, Norway is ranked 1st in the Advanced Economies group.

WEF states “The IDI is a project of the World Economic Forum’s System Initiative on the Future of Economic Progress, which aims to inform and enable sustained and inclusive economic progress through deepened public-private cooperation through thought leadership and analysis, strategic dialogue and concrete cooperation, including by accelerating social impact through corporate action”.
